The French FELIN Integrated Soldier System

Introduction |
By awarding it the FELIN contract (Fantassin à Equipements et Liaisons Intégrés – Integrated Soldier System) in March 2004, the French Army entrusted the Sagem Group and Nexter (formerly GIAT Industries) with developing and producing the first series of modular equipment for soldiers. The French Army’s FELIN has begun in 2007 to equip up to a total of 32,000 soldiers. Based on a modular concept, it is compatible with all combat operations (day, night, dismounted, mounted on vehicles and aircraft, airborne, in urban, rural or wilderness areas). It offers multiple soldier configurations adapted to operational profiles such as: platoon and section leader, sniper, machine gunner, grenadier. As the prime contractor Sagem Défense Sécurité is in charge of the following aspects of the FELIN program: • System defintion and ergonomics • System development and integration • Manufacturing • Instructor training • Integrated logistics support |
