11:17 GMT, October 9, 2009 Presently, 20,000-odd national defense patent applications have been accepted in China, which have strongly boosted the independent innovation of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the information-based construction of the weapons and equipment, said a responsible officer of the National Defense Patent Bureau of the General Armaments Department of the PLA when it came to the beneficial result of the national defense patent system since its implementation 20 years ago.

It’s said that since the acceptance of the first national defense patent application on April 1, 1985, China’s national defense patent applications have been increasing year by year. Especially since 2000, the national defense patent applications have maintained an annual growth rate of 40% and the patent transformation rate of about 70%, realizing the “win-win” situation of technological innovation and achievement transformation.

It’s introduced that patents in national defense technologies have become an important engine to drive the equipment technology of the PLA to advance.
