The new version of Role Manager along with Intellitactics ISM provides organizations with new tools to intelligently manage their identity portfolio. New features in Sun Role Manager 5.0 software enable organizations to move beyond answering the question of "who has access to what?" to "what did users do with their access?"

Sun Role Manager software is one of the first integrated role-based provisioning and auditing solutions to use business roles, such as job function and title, to assign, attest, audit, and enforce access across the enterprise. "Combining Sun's Identity Management portfolio with Intellitactics Security Manager increases the efficiency and reduces the cost of compliance initiatives", says Nick Crown, the Director of Risk and Compliance. Here’s how the data, stored and correlated by ISM, benefits the Role Manager Users: ISM and Sun Role Manager automate tasks associated with monitoring and reporting that are essential to compliance and access control. The integration enables organizations to avoid the consequences of non-compliance and avoid data loss due to ineffective access controls. When customers are using ISM and Role Manager, as an example, audit exception reports such as Terminated User and Segregation of Duties Exception reports, offered by Role Manager, will contain actual user activity as noted in the managed systems audit logs collected by ISM.

Using the data provided by ISM, Role Manager Users will quickly understand whether a user has excessive privilege or entitlements and how often the entitlements have been exercised. The reports that include the information from ISM will identify excess privilege and identify segregation of duties boundaries. These kinds of reports are critical to problem avoidance which is less expensive than problem correction. ISM also provides instant access to alerts and high risk activities involving specific end point devices for account in question. This information is now available to the users of Role Manager during the certification process.
