12:13 GMT, October 26, 2009 BEIJING | China would like to enhance its friendly military cooperation with Uzbekistan, a senior Chinese military official said here Friday according to the state-run Xinhua press agency.

The years since China and Uzbekistan forged diplomatic ties in 1992 has witnessed the smooth development of bilateral relations with frequent high-level exchanges, increasingly deepened political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation in different areas, said Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission in meeting with Kabul Berdiev, defense minister of Uzbekistan Friday.

China and Uzbekistan understood, supported and worked closely with each other in the international affairs, said Guo, adding that China highly appreciated Uzbekistan's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its consistent support to China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet, which are related to China's core interest.

Guo said it is in the fundamental interest of both sides and their people to maintain friendly cooperation of the two countries and armed forces in the complicated and changing world situation. Their cooperation is also conducive to the regional and world peace and stability.

Before the meeting, Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie held talks with Kabul Berdiev.

Liang said, bilateral military ties, as an important part of China-Uzbekistan relations, have made great progress.

He said China would like to continuously upgrade the relations of the two countries and armed forces.

Kabul Berdiev said Uzbekistan attaches importance to its friendly and cooperative partnership with China and was willing to make joint efforts with China to further promote their military cooperation.
