14:34 GMT, December 1, 2009 (released on 12/01/2009) Cambodia and Thai defense ministers held an extraordinary meeting of Thai-Cambodian general border committee (GBC) to discuss military between the two countries on Friday November 27 in the resort town of Pattaya after a recent diplomatic tension.

Participants from two sides: A Cambodian top military delegation led by Gen. Tea Banh, prime minister and minister of national defense and the chair of general border committee, and a Thai military delegation led by general Prawit wongsuwan, the minister of Thai defense, the co-chair of GBC.

Armed forces of the two countries agreed to maintain good relations for interest of our own countries and people. “We’ll hold and observe our mutual agreement based on our good understanding and try to handle issue with fair treatment to each other”, said Thai defense ministers Prawit Wongsuwan in a news conference after a two-day meeting of GBC.

Speaking at the joint news conference, Cambodian deputy Prime Minister Gen.Tea Banh said: “He believe that Cambodian military will be able to observe fair treatment and justice to the Thai engineer who has been charged in Cambodia.”

The two sides vow that the recent diplomatic tension will not lead to the conflict on their heavy armed common border, promising to keep a peaceful relationship and friendship between the troops on both sides, and to increase cooperation in a effort to maintain stability and security and to curb criminals and drug smuggling along the border.

The conflict has flared on Thai-Cambodian border following Phnom Penh to have the ancient temple Preah Vihear designated a UNESCO world heritage site last year. And this led both countries to deploy to troops to the border our dispute.
