12:07 GMT, January 26, 2010 The reporters recently learned that the first complicated electromagnetic environment application system for the PLA Army came into being in a combined tactics training base under the Beijing Military Area Command, thus a modern military training ground suitable for organization and support of confrontation-oriented, test-oriented and research-oriented trainings of various services and arms of the PLA in complicated electromagnetic environment took its initial form. This symbolizes the the PLA Army has made a significant breakthrough in conducting military training in a complicated electromagnetic environment.

The training base situated in the depth of the vast desert of Inner Mongolia is the only unit of the PLA Army designated by the Central Military Commission and the PLA general headquarters/departments to conduct a pilot project of building a training-purposed complicated electromagnetic environment. It’s learned that the system can simulate natural, civilian and military electromagnetic signals to construct an electromagnetic environment similar to that on the battlefield, and monitor various communication and radar-interference signals on the battlefield, so as to enable the directing department of the troop unit to have a good command of the electromagnetic situation on the battlefield in real-time, provide a equivalent electromagnetic situation according to the requirements on the complexity of the electromagnetic environment and the threat degree of the electronic objects in different training tasks, and realize the collection of relevant data and evaluation of the combat capability of the troops in the complicated electromagnetic environment.

The service of the complicated electromagnetic environment application system has facilitated the training base to realize a historical leapfrog from training under ordinary conditions to training in complicated electromagnetic environment. The training method will extend from confrontation of single military strength to electromagnetic confrontation and systematic confrontation, the training environment will expand from “field-based training” to “environment-based training” and the training evaluation will change from “man-made rough evaluation” to “systematic and accurate ruling”. By relying on the advanced training platform, tens of thousands of servicemen from various services and arms of the PLA will have camp training in this base this year, covering all combined tactics training subjects stipulated by the new Outline of Military Training and Evaluation.
