09:15 GMT, January 29, 2010 PEABODY, Mass. | Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), a leading provider of medical imaging and aviation security technology, announced today an agreement with L-3 Security & Detection Systems to upgrade the full suite of eXaminer Explosives Detection Systems (EDSs), including the eXaminer SX and 3DX systems, and the ultra-high-speed eXaminer XLB, to meet the US and International enhanced certification standards. In addition, L-3 placed an order for five XLB systems, which are expected to begin shipping at the end of the third quarter of this fiscal year. Together, the upgrade design work and the XLB equipment orders are valued at approximately $7 million.

The eXaminer family of products utilizes Analogic’s expertise in computed tomography (CT) technology to produce a three-dimensional image of the contents of a piece of luggage, offering unsurpassed ability to detect concealed threats. The revolutionary eXaminer XLB is the first true high-speed CT-based certified EDS system specifically optimized for screening checked baggage at large airports. Capable of scanning up to 1,200 bags per hour (in-line), the eXaminer XLB keeps bags continuously moving through an extra-large, meter-wide bore, making it the fastest in-line baggage scanning system in the world.
