Organizers react to national economic situation
13:31 GMT, March 11, 2010 After carefully reviewing the effects of the world financial crisis on both the Greek and the International defence industry, the Organizing Committee of DEFENDORY International has decided to postpone DEFENDORY 2010 which was scheduled to be held in October 2010, Athens, Greece.
In taking this decision we first consulted with the industry, registered their concerns about the economic situation in Greece and evaluated the current conditions.
We feel that with our decision, we are honouring our commitment of providing a responsible and professional service to our clients who have, over the past 30 years, supported DEFENDORY and made this exhibition a world leader in the international defence exhibitions.
This is a difficult time for Greece. The Greek Government is purely focused on responsibly implementing the European Union's 3-year austere economic measures which do not allow for any significant defence spending.
The Organizing Committee feels that it would be wholly unprofessional to organize a show now, as we strongly believe that any defence show organized in this economic environment will be purely opportunistic and would only serve the interests of the event organizers and not the industry.
We want to bring to the attention of the international defence industry as well as Defence Media, that DEFENDORY INTERNATIONAL is in no way connected with the newly announced, so-called LandSeaAir Int. defence and security exhibition which plans to take place during the same dates, in October 2010 in Athens. The promotion literature presented, may confuse the industry in thinking that it is a "replacement" of DEFENDORY.
DEFENDORY International Exhibition organized in Greece for the past 30 years, and the longest running Tri – Services defence exhibition, which became the global meeting point of the international defence community will continue the successful series of defence shows in Greece with more innovations and services.
The new dates and details will be released in due course.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence for their constant support and cooperation during these 30 years.
THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
DEFENDORY INTERNATIONAL
