Bulgarian Border Police opt for TETRA radios from EADS Defence & Security

More than 4000 radios to be used for guarding Bulgarian state borders

06:40 GMT, March 22, 2010 The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance has awarded EADS Defence & Security a second contract to supply TETRA radios for the Bulgarian Border Police. The previous contract in 2008 was for more than 2500 TETRA radios.

This order covers the delivery of more than 3100 robust and easy-to-use THR880i handheld TETRA radios and 950 TMR880i mobile radios, including accessories, documentation and training. The radios will be delivered and taken into service in the course of 2010.

The new radios will enable the Bulgarian Border Police to communicate safely and securely in their own language, as both the THR880i and TMR880i radios come with a user interface and voice feedback in Bulgarian. Both radio models have a similar design, features and menus, so users can easily learn how to use the radios and switch from one model to another.

EADS Defence & Security has already delivered the complete TETRA radio network which is currently in use by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior and for which the cooperation dates back to 2002.

Easy to use - “This is a strong sign of confidence in us and our ability to go on providing state-of-the-art TETRA solutions to Bulgaria. Ease of use has clearly been a preferred characteristic, given that demanding tasks such as those of the Bulgarian Border Police require concentration on the task, not on the equipment,” said Dirk Borchardt, Head of Security & Communication Solutions at EADS Defence & Security.
