Ice Protection System for New Korea Utility Helicopter

09:36 GMT, September 6, 2008 CHARLOTTE, N.C. | Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc., announced today it has been selected by Korea Aerospace Industries, Ltd. to provide a package of electronics to protect the engine air inlets, windshield and main and tail rotor blades on a new utility helicopter. The program for the Republic of Korea’s national aerospace company has a potential contract value in excess of $18 million over a 12-year period.

The package consists of Curtiss-Wright’s leading technology in electronic ice protection products, including the Rotor Ice Protection System (RIPS) and windshield and engine ice protection controllers. These products monitor and prevent ice from forming on the windshield, on the air intake to the engines and on all rotor blades. Without RIPS technology, for example, helicopters often need to be grounded due to icy build-up on rotor blades, which creates unstable flight operations.

“Curtiss-Wright Controls is very pleased to supply these vital products to ensure safe flight during severe weather conditions,” said David Adams, president of Curtiss-Wright Controls. “These products and systems are among the most sophisticated in the industry.”

Curtiss-Wright Controls is a leading supplier of aircraft fire- and ice-protection systems. The company will supply this system from its City of Industry, CA, operation. Delivery will begin in early 2009 in support of qualification trials for the Korea Aerospace Industries aircraft.
