15:40 GMT, November 28, 2011 In late November, at an airport in Northwest China, a warplane using jet fuel landed safely, marking that the problem of color-changing of jet fuel in storage and use that has troubled the aviation troop units of the Air Force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was solved. The project of “the research on impacts of color change of jet fuel on its use performance” of a POL research institute of the PLA Air Force achieved a success and filled the gap in the domestic field.

The jet fuel is the fuel of jet engine of the plane. The color of jet fuel will change in storage, resulting in decreased fuel performance and hence inability to guarantee normal flight and combat missions. The institute systematically studied the relationship between the color-changing and the fuel performance, and built a complete quality control system for jet fuel.

The researchers of the institute have made breakthroughs in dozens of key technologies, and successfully proposed a method of evaluating the color-changing of jet fuel, established control standards, developed testing equipment, fundamentally solving the problem of abnormal use of color-changed jet fuel.
