Austrian Eurofighter accomplishes 1,000th flight hour during intercept training

09:36 GMT, July 20, 2009 Zeltweg, Austria | Last week the still quite young history of Eurofighter Typhoons in Austria has reached a further milestone. During an intercept training mission one of the Austrian fighter aircraft accomplished its 1,000th flight hour.

During the training flight in the so-called “Schober-Area” exercise area two Eurofighters intercepted a Saab 105 of the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer) which played the role of an unidentified target. Following an evasion manoeuvre of the “intruder”, the Saab was successfully intercepted and identified.

The Austrian Air Force concludes that since the Eurofighter’s introduction into service, the fighter aircraft have met all expectations and, since, successfully contribute to securing the Austrian population and to provide safety in the Austrian air space.
