Tellabs Selected to Support U.S. Army Base Modernization

18:55 GMT, August 25, 2009 Naperville, Ill. | General Dynamics, a prime contractor for the U.S. Army’s Infrastructure Modernization (IMOD) program, selected Tellabs Government Systems to deliver a secure, highly reliable optical transport network between Army bases in Texas and New Mexico.

A key goal of IMOD is the upgrade and expansion of telecommunications networks to improve voice and data services. As part of the Army’s Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP), General Dynamics will deploy the Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System between White Sands Missile Range and the Fort Bliss Range Complex. The contiguous bases form the largest military installation in the United States, encompassing almost 3,200 square miles.

Dynamic Solution and Partners
The JITC-certified Tellabs 7100 system converges advanced optical networking and services layer technologies onto one seamless platform. It is cost-effective and simple to quickly deploy new services and provide virtually unlimited bandwidth anywhere at any time.

“Tellabs Government Systems forms strategic partnerships with system integrators to reduce the cost, complexity, space and power needs of telecom networks,” said Joe Shilgalis, vice president of Tellabs Government Systems. “We will work closely with General Dynamics to lower the total cost of ownership for the inter-base transport network with the Tellabs 7100 system.”
